Wordpress has released their latest a much faster and cooler version of it popular blogging platform. So after getting a lot of people excited with its 2.7 release WP 2.8 is now available for download and has packed in a lot more user friendliness than before. According to Wordpress - version 2.8 represents a nice fit and finish release for WordPress with improvements to themes, widgets, taxonomies, and overall speed.

My love for Wordpress is not new and I have spoken about it quite a lot here. In fact a couple of months, in fact exactly 2 months back from today, I wrote about why I think businesses should build their corporate sites on a Wordpress platform. The post was surprisingly comprehensive coming from me, and today I fulfill a small promise I had made then at least in part. In this post I will list 7 Wordpress Themes that you can use to easily build a corporate wesbite.

Six Apart, announced last week that it has launched a plugin that provides WordPress users with access to a suite of Six Apart’s add-on features for blogs. This means Wordpress user now just need to install a free plugin on their blog to access some of Typepad’s custom tools. The features are as follows:

Towards the end of April, Automattic announced the release of version 1 of its long awaited ‘community management system’ - Buddypress. I have been tracking Buddypress since the time Andy Pleating joined Wordpress to make Buddypress so technically this post is a tad late. Wordpress.com users can now post to their blogs using email. This bit of update follows the popular comment by Email feature they added a few weeks back. It certainly simplifies blogging on wp a lot simpler as the feature can be accessed from any device. You can send email from any email client, whether in a browser, on your desktop, or from your cell phone, and as much formatting will be retained as possible. And much like Posterous, multiple image attachments will be converted into a gallery of the images on your post.

After extensively testing its ‘comment reply via email feature’ in the closed beta, Wordpress.com has released the features for all its users. As a blogging platform, wordpress has been able to tap in millions of users both for its self hosted as well as the .com version. While worthy competition do exist from other platform providers, WP to many has become the definition of free publishing. However, this post is an attempt to look at Wordpress as a CMS or a website development tool rather than as a blogging platform. Below I enumerate my reasons why I feel websites should have some wordpress love.

I am one among the breed who think that every website should have some Wordpress love. I have seen the WPs ability to move beyond just a blog platform to quite a capable content management system. Now thanks to its growing and mighty talented developer community there are plugins and themes that are slowly taking WP beyond the 2 column restraints of a blog. In this post, I would like to introduce a few plugins that help make your wordpress blog a little bigger than a blog.

We have featured updates and views on various publishing platforms online over a period of time. Publishing of course referring to the whole concept of setting up a content driven website. One such platform we have mentioned fleetingly yet is a big enough name in the world of content management online is Expression Engine. Though it doesn’t have the monstrous open source evangelism of Wordpress or Text Pattern, it has its share of loyal users and is a much admired CMS. This post aims to give a brief introduction to the content management system.

The Wordpress guys launched Wordpress.tv - a video driven community site for wordpress users and developers. The idea is totally content driven and includes videos of Wordcamps, How Tos and Tutorials on Wordpress. Also on cards are slide shows of presentations and interviews of and from the Automattic team. In basic it is a complete video center on anything related to open source platform.

Much like the early part of this decade MT has come up with the direction for blogging platforms to move ahead. Yesterday the MT blog announced the launch of Movable Type 4.2 and Movable Type Pro. While ver. 4.2 claims to have cured MT’s chronic slowness and offers easier customization it the Pro that really means some serious business.

We are sure you must have noticed the fresh and cute avatars that feature beside your name, in new WATBlog’s comments section, below every single post. We incorporated this feature so that we could map images to the names of our beloved readers. Yes, we know you must be wondering how to customize the avatar that appears beside your name and we are always there to help.

A Few Days Back I Wrote a ‘Brief Introduction to Blogging’. This is in Beta Stage and is supposed to go out to a couple of Media Students (freshers). I’ve tried not to make it too ‘technical’. Need to send this out soon so your additions would be invaluable.
