Come September 15th, prepaid subscribers in the country will start rejoicing as a new directive released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) today allows them to use almost the full value of recharges done for their mobile phones. The regulator, with this directive, has directed the mobile service providers in the country to discontinue charging the processing fee that is levied on the recharge coupons currently.

In a major step up Shyam Telecom is said to have got Pan India spectrum to launch mobile services. This is a huge feather in the cap the Sistema controlled for Shyam Tele which now becomes only the third player in market to have a Pan India spectrum. They have been allotted spectrum in the CDMA platform. Among the new crop of mobile telecom players, Shyam is perhaps the first and only player to have a nationwide reach with this announcement.

Idea Cellular, one of the major telecom companies in India led by the Aditya Birla group have announced that they have begun their operations on Mumbai. The company so far has heavy presence in the Northern and Southen parts of the country.
We have 3 different, each with its own set of views and claims about the issue. RCOM claims that as per the license issued to it, it is allowed to offer both GSM and CDMA services in the country. Although TRAI is mum on RCOM’s claim, it maintains that the COAI is required to provide inter-link, failing which would be against the licensing agreements they agreed upon. COAI on the other hand claims that re-negotiations should take place since RCOM’s GSM services require a new network and hence should be considered a new service.
It would be interesting to see who bows down to whose demands
iPhone 3G - This is undoubtedly the only gadget, ever released by any company in the market, that has managed to generate so much hype that users all over the world are desperately awaiting the launch of the phone in their respective countries.
So, amidst all the speculations in the market, how much is the iPhone actually worth?
It seems that the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and the Department of Telecom (DoT) are all pumped up with their workings, so much so, that all the activity in the telecom market just refuses to die down. Barely a week after DoT released the guidelines for the auction of 3G spectrum in India, allowing even international players to participate, TRAI has now released guideline recommendations for allowing Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) in the Indian Telecom Market.
