Meebo has announced a ‘Community IM’ feature with a select few partner sites.This products lets the members of the partner sites to chat instantaneously with each other. An important aspect of this product by Meebo is that it is a ‘federated system’.

IM updates from Twitter are currently down. On the site they say that say that it’s due to an overflow of IM Traffic. This probably, as Rajiv says, is a result of Twitter’s recent funding.

Facebook has announced support for chat via Jabber and XMPP. These are two of the primary standards for instant messaging protocol on the web. The new format will enable developers to integrate chat within their applications both internally and externally to Facebook. This update will also enable developers to update a user’s status via the new protocol.

Was just looking through Facebook and noticed a feature called Facebook Chat on my Profile Page.
 
 
It basically follows an IM procedure where one can see which friends are online and ping them with instant messages.
 
 
The chats don’t get displayed on recipients’ walls.
