Years ago, when the hype about Optical Cables was on a high and everyone was laying thousands of kilometers of optical fiber cables (OFCs) across the length and breadth of the country, Railways decided to do the same, but on a much bigger scale. So, Railways OFC network, spread across some 38,000 kilometers was the biggest Optical Fiber Cable network in the country. I remember reading an exclusive story in BusinessWorld about the same at that time. The United States based makers of the CDMA platform, Qualcomm said that it plans to offer chips for 3G telecom services at ultra-low prices in India. The company plans to offer the Internet Access Device at Rs.8000 and a USB port-device priced at Rs.3500 for accessing high-speed wireless broadband Internet on PCs and laptops.
