I always wondered what made Rajkumar Hirani hype his movie to be released on Christmas Day, 3 Idiots. The answer was undoubtedly Aamir Khan, as there is always a readymade buzz when he does a movie, and there he goes out in disguise to promote the film. More in news, 3 Idiots will be released [...]

If we begin to pick and choose industries which readily accept using digital media as a platform for advertising and promotion, bollywood and such mass entertainment vehicles will be at the forefront. So it is indeed good news when we hear that they are taking digital promotion even more seriously.

Now, to offset the delay, several movies are releasing at the same time with promoters doing everything they can to catch the limelight. Today much awaited movie “Kambakkht Ishq” will release. The way Aamir Khan has been using the web recently for kicking things up a notch, is to my mind phenomenal. And now we hear that he is planning an Internet only promotion for his latest flick Ghajini. Internet only did I say? Yep, or the better way to put it, no television promos for this one baby.

The success of ZoomTV.in seems to have inspired one and all.. So if it was BAG films earlier which launched an entertainment portal E24bollywood.com its now the turn of Zee to launch its own bollywood news portal. This ones called Spicezee.com.

In the United States, the majority of the revenue that a film rakes in is through channels other than the box office. So, DVD sales, merchandise, licensing, selling of rights and digital properties (ringtones etc.) forms the major chunk of the money that Hollywood earns.
India, predominantly, has always been a box-office dominated market. With the multiplex boom, came a different kind of cinema that did not require mammoth budget and popular themes. Now, even the ringtones of the songs are pretty poplar among Indians. Wallpapers of stars, movies, song downloads and ringtones downloads are now increasingly becoming an alternative revenue sources for the industry.
The combination of Television + Web works wonders as Television brings in the eyeballs and web creates the engagement and longterm subscribers. Also its a good combination because it combines broadcasting i.e. TV with narrowcasting i.e. the web. So taking the same route BAG Films & Media Ltd which had recently launched a Bollywood focused entertainment channel called E24 has now backed it up with an online portal called E24Bollywood.com.
