We also attend several app developers conferences globally meeting hundreds of developers to have a constant pulse on the ecosystem.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">From all our conversations, we believe that the following trends that are currently ongoing, will continue to see momentum in 2013.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>OS Fragmentation – Android will be consumers choice:</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Much has been written about fragmentation of the OS.  A recent report indicated that nearly 47% of Android devices out there are still on version 3.2 (Gingerbread) while another 30% is on the more recent ICS and Jelly Bean versions.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">There are speculations that with Google releasing its own branded Android devices pitting it against leading distributors of Android like Samsung and Sony Ericsson, these vendors may start looking for alternatives including forking Android or in new OS like the recently announced initiative led by Intel and Samsung for OS Tizen.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.watblog.com/?attachment_id=70741" rel="attachment wp-att-70741"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-70741" title="images" src="http://www.watblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/images1.jpg" alt="" width="225" height="225" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Other brands in the market like Windows and Nokia continue to invest and together are already larger than Blackberry with a fast growing (albeit from a low base) time spent on mobile internet from their devices.  Blackberry is not behind with the launch of their v10 OS and new lineup of devices.  Asha series for Nokia continues to be marketed heavily at very attractive price point.   All is likely to add to significant customer confusion in the short term about which device / platform to choose from.  Similarly, developers already have to work on multiple versions of OS’s while developing their apps</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">At Mobango, we believe that Android will be the huge winner despite the fragmentation for a number of reasons. First, the handset vendors are investing in building great devices at all price points for users in the Android ecosystem.  Secondly, Android apps ecosystem is massive now with a huge preference to free / ad funded apps.  This works well for a large global penetration of the platform. At Mobango we continue to invest significantly in building a great experience for Android users and continue to add thousands of apps to our store on a monthly basis.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>2013 will be year of HTML 5:</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">A recent Google survey said that 57% of users would not choose a brand or product if the mobile experience is not good. This is a huge number and one that brands are getting conscious about.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.watblog.com/?attachment_id=70739" rel="attachment wp-att-70739"><img class="aligncenter  wp-image-70739" title="HTML5_Logo_512" src="http://www.watblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/HTML5_Logo_512.png" alt="" width="286" height="286" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Most brands build a mobile experience starting with a right mobile optimized site and an app.  The usual challenge is the mobile app strategy – which platform and why – overriding other core business and user experience questions of delivery, user experience, content, use cases, etc.<br />
HTML or HTML 5 provides a great way to side step the choice of platform question. Today most smartphones come with browsers capable of delivering full HTML functionalities and given that most app developers are clearly targeting smart phone users, the mobile journey starts with building a great HTML 5 experience.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">It is becoming increasingly common for businesses to build apps for their power users  while keeping a great HTML site for their casual users.   This obviously may not apply for a large number of categories like gaming / messenger where only an app can deliver the experience.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Sure HTML are not without their own challenges – a feature rich HTML site may have sluggish response times as compared with a native app.  Famously, Facebook dropped HTML 5 in 2012 in favour of native app for their mobile site – and the app increased their engagement significantly over HTML variant;  having said that, Facebook also clarified that their mobile site still draws millions of MAUs – not just their app.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">At Mobango we believe that HTML enabled mobile apps will be a strong trend that started in 2012 and continue to gain momentum in the coming year.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>India mobile internet adoption will cross 100m users in 2013:</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Mobile internet usage in India is expected to cross the important threshold of 100m users in India  by the last quarter of  2013.This is  tremendous growth despite the fact that fixed internet access will lag that number significantly.  Mobango is more optimistic than some of the other research that is put out given the pace of adoption of Android.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">India will emerge to be the Number 1 market in terms of growth in smartphone devices in the current year with this country becoming the number 1 priority for all app developers globally to develop for.  When we speak to developers from Europe or the US, one constant question is how do we build a user base in India at a reasonable cost.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The cost of user acquisition in India is already falling rapidly for new app developers.  What started off at about US$ 60–70 cents is already down to about US$ 30-40 cents per user for most apps.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The challenge, however, remains that app engagement amongst Indian users is very small with high churn rates.   India app audience is not that different from any global audience – they demand very high quality products.  But app owners need to focus on customizing their products with relevant India content.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Mobango believes that more of the global apps targeting large user base in India will continue to customize their offerings for the Indian users.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Re-emergence of premium content monetization:</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Globally Android has one significant challenge – its revenue per device is significantly lower than revenue per device for iOS. This is due to 2 key reasons &#8211; customers strong preference for free apps over paid apps and lower engagement levels with most of the apps, together leading to lower monetization on a per download basis.  Developers who invest considerable resources in developing an app are increasingly looking at either premium monetization or monetization through other routes such as in-app purchases, ads, etc. by publishing across multiple channels for distributing their apps   Google Play for android, while it is the single most important distribution platform, it is also a common trend for developers to publish across many other platforms to enhance reach and monetization.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Ability to distribute app on a pay per download basis, or using in-app purchases etc saw increased experiments in 2012 with several apps using not just advertisements but also premium monetization routes.   In India, premium monetization through the app stores, operator powered services, mobile internet companies and third party e-commerce players entering into content distribution show continued investment by various stakeholders in the ecosystem.   In turn, this is seeing operators investin platforms and APIs that enable service providers and app owners target their marketing more intelligently.   This works well for a number of categories of apps such as casual games, entertainment apps, utility apps etc.<br />
Mobango expects 2013 to see significant growth not just in advertisement revenues but also in premium monetization of apps and games.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>2013 will be Mobile for local;  local drives highest RoI for mobile campaigns</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">One area that should see greater investment is how mobile can extend all manner of services in local fulfillment.   We are yet to see a number of compelling services that make this happen.  Popular restaurant guide or classifieds apps are starting to invest in this direction.  One cab company in India has taken the technology route to inform users of exactly how far the cab is through their app.  There are numerous case studies of retail stores increasing footfalls by releasing a simple store locator app or mobile site.  With enough analytics in terms of how many store locator requests led to increased walk-ins or transactions, it is possible to get a sense of the value that the customer interactions on the app.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Local services won’t just be about mobile internet – it will be cross channel engagement with users – whether through calls, texting or internet bearers / platforms on the mobile.   One innovative company in India is using the concept of missed calls where the user does not pay anything, to receive brand updates, alerts, downloadable content etc.  These micro innovations are likely to all add up over time to make mobile the centre of customer engagement for brands at a local level.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">A developer has a number of tools and APIs already available to enable localization – be it APIs from telecom operators, mapping companies, Facebook / Foursquare etc – it is possible to add a lot of local contextualization to the app experience without having to build out any of the infrastructure.  The key challenge is as always the analytics side of it and trying to put a value to customer engagement.  Most times we have observed developers look at incremental metrics at evaluating RoI on various user interactions.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Mobango believes that developers will see better monetization and engagement of their apps if they continue to invest in localization of their apps and not just adopt a broad global strategy which is actually very difficult and expensive to implement for most app developers.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The car rental business should be able to handle scale, primarily because India is a large nation and rented cars have a huge demand. Frequent travelers, businessmen and others need a quick and easy solution while on their trips. This is where the online car rental business has to shine. To understand more of the business, we will be talking to Gaurav Aggarwal, the founder and CEO of Savaari.com . He started the company in 2006 along with co-founders Mohit Khanna, Rahul Khanna and Manik Shah. Savaari’s service now spans across 60 cities  and has a network of 158 vendors.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>1. What was the idea behind starting a car rental company in the online space?</strong></p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><em>It was in 2006 when I was travelling from Mumbai to Delhi and had to go to Roorkee. But I found no reliable option to book a car online sitting in Mumbai. This is when I realized the need of a reliable car rental that is available 24×7 where the customer is assured of a clean, fully functioning car and an informed courteous driver. I decided to analyze the scope of the future of car rental in India and soon I found that not only there is no standard and quality assurance in this sector but also that there are no national players. There are franchises of some western companies present but they are serving only to a niche segment. The market size was few thousand crores back then, growing at 15% each year and 97% of it was unorganized. Savaari was founded in 2006 to fill this gap. We started with an initial investment of Rs.55,000.</em></p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>2. Can you give some figures in terms of adoption of the service?</strong></p>
<blockquote>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><em>It has been an exciting journey so far. The first few years were spent in getting the business and financial model right. And the model was that we can provide the quality services to our customers on a pan India basis at very reasonable prices and still make money. We have been cash flow positive since our second year. In March 2012, we have raised our series A round of funding and this money will help us create awareness about Savaari and its offering to scale and to build the right technology solution to achieve the scale.</em></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><em>Savaari is targeted at retail users, corporate users, and online travel agents. We currently have over 500 corporate customers which consist of SMEs, MNCs and travel partners including OTAs using the services. There have been repeat customers on the retail side and also new customers coming to Savaari through word of mouth. We are currently clocking over 7,50,000 trip kms a month and have a cumulative experience of over 1 crore trip kms.</em></p>
</blockquote>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>3. Based on the adoption figures, can you give us some insights into the mindset of your audiences?</strong></p>
<blockquote>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><em>The Savaari consumer is net savvy, expects a high service level and will not compromise on quality because of higher cost, but at the same time checks on price competitiveness. Savaari is not only about providing services on a phone call, but it ensures that right from the point the customer gets in touch with Savaari to the point they get billed, they interact with Savaari and in case there is any issue, it is Savaari that takes the responsibility. Even now in all the bookings, the customer sees Savaari placard, Savaari chauffeur card, Savaari duty slip and Savaari branded newspaper and water bottles. To the end customer, Savaari is a pan India car rental company and at the back end to provide services, we have decided to aggregate local players.</em></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><em>Along with providing the car rental services at competitive rates, Savaari guarantees to provide both on-road and online safety for the customers. For on-road safety, it provides new, clean and well maintained cars and hire only courteous and experienced chauffeurs who are well versed with regional routes, and for online safety, the most secure industrial practices for ensuring the privacy of your information are used.</em></p>
</blockquote>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>4. How are you funded? Are you planning to raise more capital to expand your services?</strong></p>
<blockquote>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><em>We started with an investment of Rs.55000, which was used in putting up the website. We then added around a lakh in  the first year. However, from then we have been cash flow positive and have been using the money for expanding the business. We raised our series A first round of 1 million USD from Inventus Capital in March 2012 and we are looking at raising series B round of funding soon.</em></p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>5. Are you targeting mobile? Savaari&#8217;s competitor in this space, Olacabs has a mobile first strategy? What is your take on need for mobile apps?</strong></p>
<blockquote>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><em>Savaari has got a head start in tying up with the right vendors in different cities and offering safe reliable services to customers. When you are starting up in this space, one of the biggest challenges is to make the vendors understand the benefit of tying up with you. We were able to do it well, as we understood their pain points and were able to convince how in our business model, their pain points will be taken care of. Mobile is integral part in continuing to that strategy and you will hear more in this space soon.</em></p>
</blockquote>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>6. Finally, can you give tell us about Savaari&#8217;s journey and what you have learned as an entrepreneur in this space?</strong></p>
<blockquote>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><em>The difficult part was to leave the cushy job in US to move back to India and work full time on Savaari. We have come a long way since 2006. We have proved our business and service model and now have grown to an organization of 80 persons serving customers in 60 cities across India. While we do not plan to spread geographically for the next one year, we will be adding more product/services in the coming months and focus on customer delight.</em></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><em>On a personal front these are my learning:</em><br />
<em>- Consumers are smart; respect them by offering your services with no hidden costs</em><br />
<em>- Always see the consumer pain and have a solution that fixes while at the same time keeping an eye on the viability of the business</em><br />
<em>- Invest in the right team as that is the biggest factor in determining success for the company</em><br />
<em>- Invest in the right technology. This can phenomenally help in achieving scale in business</em></p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">The number of brands reaching out to their consumers through mobile phones has increased rapidly in the past year. Easy access to feature-rich handsets and affordable data plans has encouraged a majority of Indians to always stay connected and to spend more time with their mobile devices. The digital space has emerged as an integral platform for communications across the length and breadth of the country. <strong>The 5 trends for advertisers and marketers to watch in the coming year are as follows:</strong></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>1. Penetration of tablets boosts traffic towards mobile internet:</strong> With a host of Indian and international brands introducing low-cost tablets for Indian consumers, the penetration of these gadgets is growing fast. The rich functionality, big screen, ease of use and portability that these tablets provide will add up the traffic towards mobile internet significantly. Distribution and easy availability of these devices in tier 2 and 3 markets will also fuel mass adoption and give a boost to internet adoption in small towns and cities.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>2. More advertising money goes to mobile:</strong> We are seeing a growing segment of users who prefer to access the internet through their mobile devices. With more and more budget smartphones and tablets available in the market, more people can enjoy the benefits brought by these advanced devices. This will attract more advertisers to reach their consumers through mobile advertising. According to eMarketer&#8217;s research[*1], mobile-ad spending in India was up 110% in 2012 from the previous year. Most of this spend was on mobile search and display advertising. <p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>3. App economy on Smart TV emerges:</strong> 2012 saw the launch of televisions with built-in apps and web access. With consumers showing signs of adopting the connected-homes concept, the possibility of seeing more such TVs with the capability of communicating with mobile devices is high. Additionally, TV app stores also provide another channel for developers to distribute their apps. Developers can easily repurpose existing HTML5 applications running on PCs and mobiles to work on TV.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>4. Mobile devices become a new shopping destination and the new currency:</strong> E-commerce has grown to become the second-largest website category visited by Opera Mini’s mobile web users in India[*2]. The year-on-year growth of unique visitors to e-commerce sites such as Quikr, Amazon and Flipkart was more than 50% in 2012. Along with this trend continuing in 2013, the hope is that more device manufacturers will support the growth of technologies such as Near field communication (NFC)[*3] and that banks will roll-out large scale mobile point-of-sale solutions in 2013. With organizations like Unique Identification Authority of India and National Payments Corporation of India already working on AEPS (Aadhar-enabled payment system)[*4], mobile devices can play a significant role in driving acquisition-, authentication- and transaction-led services in partnership with carriers and banking correspondents.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>5. SwitchIdea is a platform where you can receive notifications from employers based on your skill level. Many existing social networks are used by employers to seek out potential hires by manual searching and profiling. However, if the same employers post their jobs on SwitchIdea, the service matches the job requirements and skill with what you have outlined and gives you an alert on the same. This is a much better implementation and will help employers to reach the right kind of people without much hassle.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Central to the functioning of SwitchIdea is the ingenious concept of a VCard or a Virtual Card. Based on all the information that you feed to your SwitchIdea account, the service generates a slick VCard which gives everyone a quick look at your professional information and skills in addition to contact details and information. SwitchIdea takes in information from the social networks that you attach to it. It even imports your resume from LinkedIn in a clean way. Additionally, it also allows you to add your portfolio items. Graphic designers and artists will find this very useful.</p>

The employer can then review the VCards and decides who to call for an interview.</p>

One fine afternoon, when it was a break-time at college, I was having a chat with few of my college friends over the tea and snacks at our regular hangout spot called “Tum-Tum Canteen” (A small but happy place outside the college).</em></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><em>It all started with a small question – We have Facebook and Twitter (the biggest social networks). But how easy is it to find someone with a specific skills or profession on these websites? Pretty burdensome, Right! This is because these Social Networks have their “Search Engines” work for few parameters (First Name, Last Name and Location). They do not filter the database using skills, profession or education. This is where – Switch Idea – was born. Since then, we have been working on this module of extracting real juice from social networking websites and turning them into channels of employment for job seekers.</em></p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>2. What is the kind of traction you are seeing on Switch Idea currently?</strong><br />

<p style="text-align: justify;"><em>As of now, Switch Idea has about 14,680 users (November 5, 2012). The maximum traffic that we’re fetching is from US, accounting to 60% of the total traffic. The next drive is from India!</em></p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>3. Can you tell us about the technology that went into making this website?</strong></p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><em>It took us more than a year to build our product – not just because of its design, but due to its tangible conversion of cross-platform API’s. No matter, on which social networks the users is based at; Switch Idea makes it sure that they get the relevant job notifications on right on their social accounts instantly. To be more precise, we have focused on CakePHP, jQuery, mySQL, AJAX and developing tailored social media web-based applications using the API’s.</em></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><em>Apart from the above core technologies, there are many tools that we used over the time as everything seems to be interlinked when you work as a team. You need Skype (for easy communication, Dropbox (for compiling group database), and an android phone for instant communication. There are several tools that we’ve used, but my most favorite one has always been <a href="http://sparrowmailapp.com/" target="_blank">Sparrow Mail</a>.</em></p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>4. This vCard concept is very cool. Can you tell us what other features are planned in the future?</strong><br />

<p style="text-align: justify;"><em>Yes, we’ll be coming up with applications for Android and iOS in our future releases. Users will be able to exchange their vCards (Virtual Cards) right from their smart phones. Employers can easily filter candidates based on their skills and education on-the-go. I think that’s all we’re planning for now.</em></p>

So what is the logical next step for a startup that is exploring the food and restaurant sector? Food delivery of course! Delhi based startup BigBite is one such venture which focuses on delivering food right at your doorstep for free. Delivery services can be challenging as the more popular a restaurant gets, the more complex the process gets. Hence, it does make sense for restaurants to sort of outsource the whole deal to a specialized delivery service. But BigBite seems to be more than that. They want to focus on the discovery of new and awesome places that not many people know about.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">BigBite was founded by Himanshu and Sajal Garg and is completely bootstrapped. They currently have some 800+ restaurants who have come on board. Payment for the food is made on delivery. They are planning to get online payment options soon. There are currently 10 team members who are working on the venture. The service typically makes 10% per transaction between you and the restaurant. The returns will be significant if the service scales. The growth has been good so far and they are looking for VCs to fund expansion.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">We spoke to Himanshu about the service and how it came about.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Q. How was Bigbite conceptualized?</strong></p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><em>Well, when two voracious foodies combine, a bigbite is what you get. Sajal was a regular user of similar food portals when he was in London. So, he had already tasted the convenience of such a portal for people who regularly order food. Meanwhile, I was thinking on similar lines about a portal that could aggregate restaurants and give me a perfect platform that gives me variety as well as information to help me order food based on my requirements and budget. We met through a common friend, discussed the idea and voila, rest is history.</em></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><em>We started working on bigbite in August, 2011 and launched the site in March, 2012. Presently, bigbite.in is the market leader in the online food ordering space in NCR with 800+ restaurants on board, which are growing at a rapid pace. We aim to reach 2000 restaurants in NCR by the end of the year.</em></p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Q. What is the USP of Bigbite?</strong></p>
<blockquote>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><em>A key differentiator from our competitors is our depth of coverage in the areas we have launched. So in comparison to other existing options, the focus here  is on small eating joints apart from high end restaurants. The idea is to catalogue a pan Delhi listing of restaurants which can deliver food and provide a richer experience to the consumer and drive the sales of the small joints.</em></p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Q. Can you share some of the interesting usage statistics that you have seen since you started?</strong></p>
<blockquote><p><em>Well, we have noticed some typical patterns when it comes to online food ordering. There is a spike on weekends and holidays. Also, a majority (~58%) of orders we get is through repeat customers, so once a customer opts in, customer retention has been pretty high.</em></p></blockquote>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Q. Any plans of expansion beyond Delhi? If yes, which city would you go to first?</strong></p>
<blockquote><p><em>We plan to raise funding and extend our services to other metros starting January&#8217;12. Well, if we had to name one city we would like to go to Bangalore first, as we see great promise and acceptance for an online food ordering portal there.</em></p></blockquote>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Q. What are your thoughts on the VC scenario in India?</strong></p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><em>Well, Venture Capitalists in India have been noticing newer avenues and regions to expand. They have definitely moved into the ecommerce space in a big way, and they still need to be very cautious about finding the opportunities that generate better returns. <p style="text-align: justify;" dir="ltr">The service will be heading to India soon as we have heard that serial investor <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/pub/jaideep-venugopal/22/793/957">Jaideep Venugopal </a>has made an investment in the company. Details of the investment have not been made public except for the fact that Video Recruit has seen around 3 million Euros in total investment. Supposedly, the investment has been made so that the company can begin its India operations.  The company was founded by Annabelle Diamantino, Philip Staehelin and Tomas Tomiczek who have also invested in the company. The company is currently located in Prague in the Czech Republic.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;" dir="ltr">Jaideep Venugopal spoke about his investment in the company.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;" dir="ltr"><em>&#8220;Recruiters now do not have to sit through interviews where after a couple of minutes you know that candidate is unsuitable. Further, with the ability to review the videos at their convenience, whenever and wherever they are and on internet connected device, the recruiters will find the tool to deliver significant time and cost savings, besides increasing the speed and quality of hire. Needless to say there is a huge scalability factor in Video Recruit&#8217;s business model.&#8221;</em></p>

<p style="text-align: justify;" dir="ltr">The concept seems very promising and will definitely speed things up in terms of recruitment. Recruitment in India can be a challenging affair when you see so many instances of doctored resumes because employers were too busy to catch the discrepancies. This service may help HR and hiring departments to reduce the time they spend on evaluating resumes in a roundabout way and focus on the basics.</p>

That is evident as they are supported by a strong backbone of pervasive internet presence as they have shopping, news and entertainment all under one roof and also because of the two tier methodology. The idea of letting different branches of an organization work as independent companies and going through separate branding incites robustness into the structure.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">With Satvikshop, Times Internet Ltd opened the gates to a completely new retail segment for itself. The customers who do not reside in big cities or who reside in places which are not listed on the delivery map of some of the smaller organizations  get benefitted by this move. If everything goes right with the marketing and publicity antics of the company, which by its track record is a cakewalk; success of Satvikshop is a win-win scenario for both the owners and the customers.</p>

Incidentally, the Founder and CEO of Zomato, Deepinder Goyal also belongs to their batch. <em>Giveter</em> is looking to follow <a href="http://www.watblog.com/2012/04/06/zomato-crosses-on-to-print-content-coming-full-circle/">Zomato in carving a niche</a> for itself by creating a market for providing people with the best gifting options. Since they have understood how really difficult it is for people to think of something to gift those close to them on various occasions, they have come up with the most apt solution.</p>

He also added that the concept is there to help givers who need not be bothered about physical addresses any more. As the giver has to only put the email address or Facebook link or Twitter handle of the recipient. Giveter will then sends a message to the recipient about the gift waiting for him/her and will ask for them to submit their address for delivery. A pilot model of this was done by Giveter on August 5<sup>th</sup> Friendship Day and complete version of this will be available soon.</p>

Email marketing involves directly marketing a commercial message to a group of people using electronic mail (email). In simpler words, every email sent to a potential or current customer could be considered email marketing. It usually involves using email to send ads, request business, or solicit sales or donations, and is meant to build loyalty, trust, or brand awareness.</p>

The best way is to make the users sign up and understand what specific requirements and products they demand. Once we built the relation with a customer, perhaps our campaigns become result oriented. We need to identify and maintain the database of the passive and active consumers. We need to strategize our campaigns as per user’s choice. The key to make a successful campaign lies in understanding User behavior.</span></p>

There are e-commerce portals Snapdeal, Dealsandyou etc. who already introduced their mobile apps to provide their user anytime access to related information like deals, offers, etc.</span></p>

E-mail marketing demands to the point communication and information depicted in graphics, pictorial information always been interactive for users and carries higher percentage of reply compared to general textual information.</span></p>

On 20<sup>th</sup> April, we had reported that a new start-up <a href="http://branchout.com/">BranchOut</a> had received a funding of US<strong>$ </strong>25 Million<strong> </strong>from <a href="http://www.mayfield.com/">Mayfield</a> and other investors and can give a serious competition to LinkedIn.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">But the truth is, <strong>with just 25 Million users, BranchOut is still pretty small compared to LinkedIn, which has 150 Million registered users. </strong><strong> </strong>But BranchOut operates as a <a href="http://www.watblog.com/2012/04/24/facebook-nears-1-billion-users-officially-the-top-social-site/">Facebook</a> application that lets users organize business connections and that is the selling point for them. Whether a threat or not, the timing of LinkedIn with their new iPad app, cements the fact that it has not become complacent and wants to up their game. We can’t blame them, since competition is tough these days and getting funded, rather easy.  It’s all about the timing and the big ideas.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Only time will tell whether LinkedIn manages to innovate at regular intervals and stays effective.</p>
