The mobile web seems to be taking everybody by storm. There was a time when the ability of accessing wap sites on the phones was just a novelty. The real serious candidates would always end up with a BlackBerry. However, with more bandwidth and technologies like 3.5G making a headway in mainstream market, no one can hush away the importance of mobile web any more.
There have been quite a bit of anticipation regarding this month’s Startup Saturday, organized by HeadStart, in Mumbai. In addition to 2 startup demos by the founders of Librarywala and AdoRoi, there was also a panel discussion scheduled, with speakers like Mahesh Murthy (from SeedFund), Hemir Doshi (from IDG Ventures), Rohit Nalwade (Ex-CEO of ConsumerVision) and Gopal Krishnan (of Mobile2Win fame). The topic of the panel discussion was – What should a startup do in a slowdown?
Even while government telco MTNL launches India’s very first 3G services in the capital and also partnered with Aksh Optifiber to provide mobile TV services in Mumbai and Delhi, TRAI’s idiosyncrasies keeps getting the auction for the 3G services postponed indefinitely.
The rollout of 3G services continues to be the highlight of all scrutiny and anticipations for the Indian Telecom Regulatory Operator. Although the auctions for the 3G spectrum had been delayed till Jan 15th of the new year, we had already mentioned that the spectrum was automatically awarded to the state-owned MTNL and BSNL.
