Intex has unveiled the Aqua Octa smartphones that are touted to be India’a first octa-core processor-powered device. The Intex Aqua Octa sports a massive 6 inch HD IPS display based on One-Glass-Solution (OGS) and runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. It is powered by MediaTek’s MT6592 octa-core chip clocked at 1.7GHz with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of inbuilt storage which is further expandable up to 32GB via microSD card.
The company had announced its strategic alliance with chipmaker MediaTek in November last year to bring the device to the Indian market. The multiple cores can be allocated for different tasks and is also expected to improve battery life considerably.
In case of camera the device boasts of a 13-megapixel auto focus rear camera with LED Flash and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera similar to the Aqua i7. It comes with dual SIM support with dual standby and includes 3G, Wi-Fi, Micro-USB, and Bluetooth. The device is available in black and white colors and will officially hit stores from January 15. However, it is available for sale on Snapdeal.
Homegrown players like Micromax, Karbonn, Lava, Maxx and Intex have outpaced established players like Apple and Samsung in April-June quarter due to rising demand for affordable smartphones in the major emerging markets of India.
