Doordarshan has entered into a partnership with video platform YouTube to live stream the 67th Indian Independence Day celebrations and the Prime Minister’s address to the nation for 2013.
The event will be live-streamed tomorrow from 6:25 am onward, capturing the flag-hoisting ceremony by the Prime Minister of India, from the Red Fort. Additionally, users will also also be able to view the highlights of the entire PM speech and celebrations on YouTube. This telecast will be available worldwide on high definition (HD) live feed on Doordarshan’s official YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/DoordarshanNational).
In a statement, Tripurari Sharan, Director General, Doordarshan, said,
“We are delighted to associate with YouTube to share the Independence Day celebrations with Indians across the globe. Streaming Independence Day celebration live on YouTube will help us to reach the global audience in a format which best suits today’s generation.”
There will be no ads in the live-stream. Doordarshan has been quite active on the social media, especially on the YouTube front since early this year. In January 2013, they had live-streamed the annual car festival of Lord Jagannath live from Puri.
Gautam Anand, Director Content Partnerships, YouTube, added,
“This is the first time we’re live streaming India’s Independence Day Celebrations and we hope that our users will enjoy the telecast wherever they’re in the world.”
YouTube had added the ability to live-stream in channels with as little as 100 subscribers earlier this month.
The live-stream is a great platform for the whole of the country to witness the Independence celebrations. Video consumption through online streaming sites like YouTube has immensely grown over the past few years across a variety of devices. Doordarshan is clearly forming a definitive strategy across key areas such as video advertising, video broadcast and online TV streaming.
