All India Radio (AIR) has taken many more efforts to reach out to the masses. The latest is that AIR news will now be available as SMS on you mobile phones.
This service will send news alerts thrice a day to all the registered users across the country. Every SMS will constitute the top 3 news headlines along-with an advertisement tag. They will be approximately 100 characters and the remaining 60 characters would be reserved for the advertising tag.
This development comes into sight after AIR had launched an Android app previously. The app featured various regional news bulletins along with special news-based programmes. And such a SMS based service will assist the progress in expanding its base in the country. Also, the advertisement tag i.e., featured in the messages will help in generating revenue. According to sources, it is reported that AIR has already taken permission from TRAI for sending bulk-messages.
Additionally, the Marketing Division of AIR has chalked out a plan where in it will try to sell the advertising tags which are present along with the news alerts. This service will obviously require a huge database for storing details and AIR is in talks of finalising a firm which will help in generating and maintaining the database.
News updates via SMS is a welcome move for Indians not having proper access to the Internet, especially in the smaller towns and rural India. This mechanism will provide an efficient way of delivering news in a quicker and hassle free manner.
