Twitter has tied up with Komli Media in a bid to ramp up its advertising sales in India. Indian Twitter users might come acros aggressive targeted advertising due to this partnership. As per the reports, Komli Media will start selling ‘promoted products’ or advertising on Twitter in India. Komli will offer Twitter’s advertising features like Promoted Tweets, Promoted Accounts and Promoted Trends. The company is already very strong in the pan-Asian region due to ad partnerships with Facebook and Zynga. Last month Komli integrated with Facebook Exchange to expand its web presence.
Komli had entered into a similar partnership with Twitter in November last year to launch ad sales in South East Asia.
According to industry insiders ‘Promoted Trends’ which last for 24 hrs and appear at the top of trending topics are priced at around Rs. 5 lakh to Rs. 8 lakh. Twitter and Komli Media are pitching this as an option to be used for companies that have big launches and announcements to make. ’Promoted accounts’, on the other hand, which will appear at the top of ‘who to follow’ recommendations will mostly be available on a cost-per-follow model.
Twitter has earlier worked with Star TV and UTV in India, where they promoted hashtags on the channels. The micro blogging platform is also looking to sign more partnerships with various channels, operators and network operators.
The Indian online advertising market, which is currently dominated by Google’s AdWords, Facebook and a few other minor players, is expected to grow at a compounded annual growth rate of 32 per cent to Rs. 7,400 crore in 2017, according to a recent FICCI study. On the other hand Twitter is also expected to more than double its ad revenue to hit $950 million in 2014. The company recently rolled out cookie and email based ad targeting, key word ad targeting and geo ad targeting.
