Nokia Asha Gets Software Upgrade, To Support WhatsApp And Mail For Exchange

Nokia is on the verge of rolling out several upgrades for its Asha Touch range of smartphones including the Asha 305, Asha 306 and dual-SIM enabled Asha 308 and Asha 310. The upgrade will add several new features to the phone software and device, but the most celebrated upgrade at this instance is the Microsoft mail support for exchange protocols. This will mean that the above mentioned devices will be now more usable in the context of office use for its mail exchange server. Apart from this, there is another exciting upgrade coming in the form of a YouTube launcher which will improve the user’s social networking experience.

According to statements made by Nokia regarding the updates, users will be directly able to download the update to their phone which would mean that this is an OTA (Over the Air) update we are speaking of. For doing the same, the user needs to go to the menu and thereby hit the options for settings. Switching to device update tab will start the download. Nokia also recommends that the update should be preferably done over a Wi-Fi network.

Some of these updates will, however, remain specific to certain models but the software platform update with all the tweaks will be available for all Asha touch smart phone users. With lat many users in the Indian context, the mailing, video and other upgraded features with this update will be a great enhancement to the platform.

This is a good move by Nokia in order to strengthen its foothold in the budget phone market, which is huge in India, though steadily declining now. WhatsApp too clocked 250 million user mark recently, and the addition of software upgrade and apps is testimony to the fact that Nokia is on the right path for development and promotion of its Asha series.
