Soon after announcing the date of sale of Kindle Fire range of tablets on its Indian platform, Amazon.in has now started selling electronic gadgets like mobiles, camera and portable music players. Amazon which already deals in apps, books, movies and TV shows had announced at the time of its Indian debut that it will soon start selling electronic goods.
Commenting on the launch, Amit Agarwal, Vice President and Country Manager, Amazon India, said in a company statement, “Customers have been asking us to bring the Amazon experience to electronic products in India. We are very excited to open our marketplace to sellers in these popular categories and offer broad selection, low prices, great convenience, and reliable delivery to shoppers across India.”
Amazon is currently selling home theaters, DVD players, recorders, earphones, headphones, speakers, digital frames, tripod stands and many other electronic gadgets. Amazon claims to deal in over 20,000 electronics products from over 200 brands on the website.
The company said that more than 150 electronics retailers including Croma, Vijay Sales, UniverCell, Saholic, and J.J. Mehta & Sons are going to use Fulfillment by Amazon. Items Fulfilled by Amazon feature additional benefits of cash on delivery, delivery tracking to the doorstep, and free returns pickup. As a limited period launch promotion, customers will enjoy free delivery with no minimum order value on all orders fulfilled by Amazon.
Amazon is offering 10% discount on selected mobile handsets and interestingly Flipkart has also launched an ‘Offer Zone‘ which offers ‘upto 10% discount on mobiles‘. I compared few prices of mobile phones on Amazon and Flipkart. Samsung Grand Duos (white) costs Rs 18, 532 on Amazon while it costs Rs 17, 499 on Flipkart.
I believe the full fledged entry of Amazon in India is definitely going to heat up price wars. What do you think?
