Continuing its long trait of smartphone launches, Samsung has launched Galaxy S4 Zoom, a new version of its flagship smartphone that includes 10x optical zoom. By launching the phone the South Korean electronic giant has actually erased the fine line between a smartphone and a digital camera.
The S4 Zoom sports a 16-megapixel camera with a 10x optical zoom and a Xenon flash, along with a special “Zoom Ring.” It comes with a built-in optical stabilization, which should make it easier to take photos in low light and video without too much shakiness. The S4 Zoom which looks very similar to S4Mini has a 4.3-inch qHD display, a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 8GB of storage memory (expandable via microSD cards). The phone which runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) packs LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC. It also has a 1.9-megapixel camera for video chat on the front side.
The Zoom Ring feature in the S4 Zoom enables easy camera navigation that can be used to activate the Quick Launch and Shortcut features, giving you instant access to multiple camera modes including Auto, Gallery and Smart Mode with a simple twist. It also boasts of pretty awesome features for example: If you’re on a call and spot something you want to share, twist the Zoom Ring to activate an in-call photo share feature. Then just snap a photo and send it via text to the person with whom you are talking.
The phone comes equipped with various camera features that are found on the Galaxy S4 like Drama Shot, which merges continuous shots of moving objects into one; and Action Freeze, which captures high-speed action. Smart Mode will also help you pick the best option for your surroundings. One interesting new feature is Photo Suggest, which connects to libraries of images to help provide inspiration, and can even guide you to the best place to take a picture based on your current location. Story Album is also on hand to organize your collection.
The S4 Zoom is the latest addition to the Galaxy S4 line of phones after the Galaxy S4 Mini and the Galaxy S4 Active. Samsung has not provided a release date or any details on the S4 Zoom’s price, but will probably reveal them in its upcoming June 2o event.
President and CEO JK Shin promises the phone to ‘bring best of both world’. I personally feel otherwise. Although I agree that the S4 Zoom is an impressive camera but it is certainly not an out of the world smartphone. Cameras have becoming an important part of smartphones ecosystem. In fact a latest study says that smartphones have diminished demands for digital cameras. I feel that S4 Zoom has pretty much same features of S4 Mini. Also, at 25.5 x 63.5 x 15.4 mm, it’s bulkier than most high-end smartphones today and is heavier than Note II. Nokia’s 41 mega pixel PureView camera is so far the best camera technology in a smartphone.
After playing the large screen card has Samsung now moved on to camera? Can we expect more such camera smartphones from the company who created ‘phablets‘?
