Telecom Operator Tata Docomo has joined hands with Opera Software to offer a co-branded Opera Mini mobile browser to its users in India. Tata Docomo customers will be able to download this co-branded version of Opera Mini on their devices from m.opera.com. Since Opera Mini is known the world over for its data compression technology which results in 90% decrease in data size, it will be quite useful for Tata Docomo users in these markets.
Commenting on the partnership, Rishi Mohan Malhotra, Head VAS for Tata Teleservices Limited, said, “We are sure that with the experience enhancements like faster browsing and convenient discovery of content that Opera Mini provides, Tata DOCOMO subscribers can truly experience world-class mobile internet browsing like never before.”
Other telecom operators like Vodafone, Idea and Airtel had also partnered Opera for a co-branded Opera Mini browser. The number of Indian users getting onto Opera Mini jumped by 136.6% and users from the Android camp increased by 62% thus accounting for 12% of the total Opera Mini user base. In a bid to expand its user base Opera Mobile has announced a partnership with 7 Indian OEMS who deal primarily in low and medium priced Android devices.
Opera Mini offers features such as Smart Page, Speed Dial, tabbed browsing, password manager, download manager and Opera Link. Opera Turbo, users get a much smoother & better mobile internet experience while spending a lot less on data.
Sunil Kamath, Vice President for South Asia, Opera Software said,”Partnering with Tata DOCOMO will help us extend Opera Mini’s reach to more users, whether they use basic phones or smartphones.”
To my surprise, Opera has not teamed up with Tata Docomo for its recently launched Opera Web Pass deal which would have encouraged further users and also benefited the telecom operator. Tata Docomo has recently entered into few partnerships to give its user base a much needed push.
