Google+ Gets An iOS And Android Update

Google+ is one social media platform that has been under the shadow of the more popular ones for a while now. While Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram and the often criticised Facebook seem to be the toast of the town, Google+ has had to fight to find acceptance.  But it seems that efforts are beginning to bear fruit and the critics are warming up to Google’s dire attempt (after the failed Wave and Buzz) to establish itself in the social media space. Corroborating this story is the survey which shows that Google+ is the world’s second biggest social networking site with 343 million active users.

In December last year, Google updated its Google+ apps in a bit to up the interactions on its social networking scene. In the beginning of March this year, they even updated the profiles and pages of their web presence just ahead of Facebook’s NewsFeed revamp.

Now, Google+ has gone ahead and released a new update for the iOS and Android platforms. I checked the updates on iOS and here they are.

  • Photo filters have come to Google+! You can crop and add filters like Cool, Warm, Retrolux to your images. You can also rotate the images
  • You can check-in and share your location with a select group of circles/communities. You have complete control over this feature
  • You can moderate the content that you see and re-share news with a specific community/circle
  • Small touches like the popping up of the Google colours when refreshing a page are a delight to see.

I think Google+ is finally getting its act together and the increased acceptance of the site is a good sign. I, for one, will make an attempt to increase my activity on Google+ and use the social media platform often. What about you?
