Online ticketing company BookMyShow has joined hands with six Indian Premier League (IPL) teams to sell tickets for the sixth season of the T20 tournament. The firm will be responsible for 60% of the total IPL tickets this year. BookMyShow which recently acquired Ticketgreen.com will be the official ticketing partner for Mumbai Indians, Pune Warriors, Kings XI Punjab, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Daredevils and Sunrisers Hyderabad for the upcoming season of IPL starting from April 3 to May 26 2013.

We are associated with six IPL teams this season, managing more than 15 lakh tickets for them,” BookMyShow.com Founder and CEO Ashish Hemrajani said in a statement.

According to BookMyShow, apart from being the official ticketing partner for these teams, the company will also provide a ticketing solution to them, which would include strategy and planning, ticket printing with security features, online and ground sales, home delivery and cash collection. BookMyShow which gave its website a complete makeover in January this year, also said that it sold 75% tickets online last season even with low internet penetration showing a 35% growth in online sales since its inception.

The website owned by Bigtree Entertainment Pvt.Ltd had previously sold tickets to few other events like  Hockey, Formula 1 Racing, AutoExpo and Music Concerts.  BookMyShow is one of the most player in the online ticketing scenario and has expanded its reach due to a handsome round of funding.

I think the IPL ticket selling venture will give BookMyShow a further push and help it create a top spot in online ticketing business. Also, it will be interesting to see how many tickets it sells this year compared to last year owing to advent of cheaper smartphones and affordable data plans. I will be rooting for Pune Warriors this year again!
