Blackberry users rejoice! After being announced at the launch event at the end of January, Whats app has finally made its way to BlackBerry 10. The company announced that popular cross-platform messaging application is now available for BlackBerry 10 users.
WhatsApp for BlackBerry 10 features “real-time push notifications” that are displayed even when the device is locked, as well as tight integration with the Hub and Flow, allowing users to check messages as part of their normal workflow. According to the post when first logging in to WhatsApp, your contacts will be uploaded in encrypted form to the company’s servers, which will then match up your local people will those on the app.
“WhatsApp is a leading mobile messaging app that connects people to their contacts on several platforms, and we are pleased to work with WhatsApp to bring their service to our customers“, said Martyn Mallick, Vice President of Global Alliances and Business Development at BlackBerry in a company statement.
The value of WhatsApp has always been its ability to connect users across different mobile platforms, and now that BlackBerry 10 users are joining the party, it will surely see even a greater momentum.
I think adding WhatsApp Messenger was a necessity for Blackberry if it wants to stay in the smartphone race. The company has always been criticized for the lack of a robust app ecosystem on its BlackBerry 7 smartphones. Also integrating Whatsapp with Blackberry Z10 might be a sale booster for the expensive handset.
