Usually, a fast-paced urban, modern life leaves little or no room for getting to know the neighbours and for community socializing This is evident from the fact that very often many of us are not acquainted with our neighbours and even if we do know their names, we don’t really know much about their lives or routines.
In a bid to change this kind of apathy, Sachin Tarparia and Mukesh Gupta have launched LocalCircles.com. This community oriented website was launched by Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit at The Lalit in Delhi and for the time being is available only for the Delhi/NCR region.
LocalCircles.com is a community social networking site. This means that people living in a particular colony and/or in an area can form a virtual social group and stay connected with each other. Also, they can ask one another for opinions on a variety of matters pertaining to community living. For example, which paediatrician is good or if X service provider is reliable or whether school Y is as good as they claim to be. Though seemingly trivial, we find it most difficult to find accurate and reliable answers to these daily questions that dodge our lives. To know that a platform exists where we can know who lives in our society and that we can use this platform to share mutually beneficial information is promising. LocalCircles.com promises to connect communities with doctors, miscellaneous services, schools, colleges, colleagues in the area, etc.
Speaking on how privacy on this networking site will be maintained and how frauds will be kept at bay, Mr. Mukesh Gupta, President and CEO said, “To ensure everyone is registered with their real names, addresses and contact details, they have to be invited either by LocalCircles or by an existing LocalCircles user. LocalCircles selects neighborhoods, schools and workplaces based on demographics or user requests and then invites all the members within these communities via a personalized invitation that includes a unique sign -up code. The unique sign -up code ensures that a Defense Colony resident only joins the Defense Colony Neighborhood and not a Friends Colony Network.”
I think a closely guarded and secure local networking platform like LocalCircles.com will greatly benefit a generation that is increasingly connected with each other virtually.
The fact that we can turn to our neighbours in our times of need and when we need local advice is sure to foster a feeling of brotherhood and security in a day and age when both these appear to be lacking in our daily life.

Very well described. I am from Korea and a user of LocalCircles.com in my apartment at Greater Noida. It is the best thing I have seen in India so far. It can be used in South Korea also.
Few things you missed in you article are that it also connects workplace and school communities as a good bit of daily life information comes from there.
This morning they created a circle on Security in Gated Communities and people are joining in from all parts of Noida/Greater Noida.
This could actually be the new Facebook, coming out of India…I
I wish them all the best.
