Bigrock, one of the big players in the domain registration and web hosting space in India has announced that it will now be accepting Cash On Delivery (COD) from its customers in the country. Those who are looking to buy domains can now choose to pay from the comfort of their homes. The company as tied up with Gharpay which is a payment network which specializes in COD. Bigrock customers in 15 cities including metros, tier 1 and tier 2 cities can avail this service. There are plans to extend this to other cities in the near future.
Bhavin Turakhia, Founder of BigRock spoke about the new development,
“Given the low penetration of electronic payment methods in India, the Cash on Delivery facility provides BigRock customers yet another option in addition to existing modes of payments like credit/debit cards, net banking, and cheque payments. We have observed that even savvy online customers often prefer to pay cash on delivery for the products they purchase. We are delighted to be the first domain registrar to roll out this service and are confident that it will help us serve our customers better.”
Bigrock may be the first company in the world to introduce this feature but this largely dictated by the uniqueness of the Indian consumer landscape. While paying with COD for a domain and web hosting might not make sense to those of us who live on the Internet, there are many people out there in smaller towns who do not have credit/debit cards or netbanking. COD makes a lot of sense. It would be good if Bigrock can take this opportunity to educate their customers about online payments, because frankly COD is kind of a bother when it comes to operations.
