Digivive, the company that operates nexGTV, the mobile TV streaming app has announced a partnership with Videocon mobile phones and tablets. This partnership will see Digivive’s nexGTv app being available on Videocon’s VT71 and VT10 tablets out of the box. We have covered the app before and it seems to be one of the few players which is providing TV content on mobile in the country, thus addressing a big need in tier 2 and tier 3 cities where people just use their mobile phones/tablets instead of desktops and laptops.
nexGTv has around 100 live channels, a option to replay TV and video on demand in addition to a music channel that they launched recently. Digivive says that nexGTV’s app sees more than 8.5 million users currently, a number that is bound to increase if Digivive partners with many other affordable tablet makers. The company said that the app is downloaded 20,000 times every day. They say that traction for the app increased during the cricket season. We checked the app install figure on Google Play and it does seem that the app is seeing good traction. The app is available on iOS, Android, Blackberry and Nokia’s Ovi Store.
G. D. Singh, Director, DigiVive spoke about the partnership,
“We are excited to partner with Videocon Mobiles for embedding nexGTv app in their recently launched tablets. This tie-up is another step towards our objective of ‘massification of entertainment’ as this will open new avenues for reaching out to many potential users. With nexGTv expanding its reach, now more and more users can enjoy what we like to call, their ‘personal DTH’. With this tie-up, we plan to increase our subscriber base substantially.”
Khalid Zamir, Head of Product Planning & Development at Videocon Mobile Phones said,
“We are glad to partner with DigiVive’s popular mobile TV service – nexGTv for an enhanced user experience on our tablets. VT71 and VT10 are our recent launches in the tablet space, and bring to our users the latest technology at affordable prices. nexGTv is a successful mobile TV service provider and hence it made sense for Videocon to partner with them for this valued added service on our tablet devices.”
Mobile is an important part of the growing digital ecosystem in the country and as far as we can see, the nexGTv is filling an important gap in the market. Mobile TV is not new but making that service available on smartphones is a genius move. The company should explore more tie-ups in the content partner space, so that they can make many different channels available on their mobile apps.
