Online gaming is on fire in India. Country’s game developers are doing extremely well at national and international market. And most importantly, they are changing their strategies, raising fund and forming alliance with right partners in order to improve their portfolio. The most recent partnership in the online gaming front shows that the trend is on. Mumbai based Hungama Digital Media Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. and Hyderabad based game developer Gameshastra have partnered to form an integrated online gaming company that will offer localized games for various platforms.
“The concept of gaming has caught on across the world and is gaining rapid pace especially in the mobile and connected devices environment. Through our partnership with Gameshastra, we will create a bouquet of games that are engaging and addictive for the average gaming enthusiast,” says Neeraj Roy, MD & CEO of Hungama.
Gameshastra develops and publishes games for independent gaming consoles like Sony PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, Nintendo DS, Wii and gaming platforms like Windows PCs, Mac OS X, iOS, Android. The company works as offshore game development partner. On the other hand, Hungama Digital already has its gaming section known as Hungama Game Studio. By partnering with Gameshastra they will come up with exclusive games across genres like celebrities, Bollywood, sports, lifestyle etc. for various gaming consoles and gaming platforms. Partnership can be a key factor behind growth and Hunama Digital proved it. In October 2012, Hungama partnered with Adsmobi Inc., global mobile media buying platform, to generate revenue through mobile advertisement. They launched a game for the Bollywood movie Race 2 by partnering with Gameshastra in past. The company claims to have partnerships with more than 400 content developers, record labels, studios, broadcasters and game publishers.
Hungama Digital develops, publishes and distributes South Asian and Bollywood entertainment content for global audience. It has got the digital rights to more than half a million music and video titles world wide.
Good for Indian audience. Such ventures will bring in more entertainment options on their plate! In December 2012, popular comic book series Amar Chitra Katha announced to enter into Digital Media. MadRat, creator of Hindi scrabble game ‘Aksharit’, raised fund which indicates more games in the local languages are to hit the web from them. Mumbai based Games2Win’s Parking Frenzy was reported to be No. 1 in the ITunes App Store. All these set high expectations from Indian game developers; and their track record so far says that they can live up to it.
