Choosing the ongoing Jaipur Literature Festival ( JLF) 2013 to unveil the portal, Partha Sengupta, VP, Raw Materials Division, Tata Steel explained the intention, “Our idea is to create a value driven society through this online portal where the youth, particularly, the college-going ones who could form opinions can use this platform for bringing about social changes. We are targeting youth below 30 years”. In its essence, Valueabled is being deployed to urge the youth to be inspired & have a positive impact on & within the society.
We gave the site a quick visit & were quite amused by the quirky concept of the site layout:
Ditching the tried & tested method site navigation, Valueabled has been designed to appear as a smorgasbord where articles, posts, comments, tweets, photos & other content appears as small boxes. The eye-catching design is conjured up to entice the user to ‘discover‘ the various posts. Though, the site does have a ‘standard’ menu & search buttons too.
Keeping the theme away from even a slightest hint of brand related promotion, the Tata’s appear to have done a good job at sticking to the primary agenda of urging the modern generation, to give back to the society. They want the youth to speak via actions that have a long-term impact.
The sections include ‘Watchables’ which is a video gallery of inspirational videos, interviews and imaginative projects & also a Debate section besides a Talk the Talk where user-generated content is being hoped to draw higher visitor engagement. Supported by a mobile app too, the site will make use of Google Hangout also, to feature public videos submitted by users via the ‘Shareable’ section.
Do give the site a visit & let us know your views.
