Gerald Ratner, he of the infamous ‘Ratner Effect’ fame is planning to bring his jewellery e-commerce venture, Gerald Online to Indian customers. He announced this during his recent visit to India. Gerald Online will launch soon though we don’t have the exact date of the planned launch. Ratner said that Indian jewellery e-commerce market which is still facing growth pains, will ultimately grow at a good pace and he wants to leverage this.
Gerald Online has partnered with Iksula, an online solutions provider from India to help it with technical and marketing expertise. Gerald Online already has a partnership with SB&T International Ltd, an export manufacturing company from India. Gerald Online already has diamond jewellery manufacturing operations in Mumbai. Using that to provide goods in India will be the next logical step.
Ratner also said that the company will have to customize its jewellery for Indian customers as they generally preferred 18-24 carat diamond jewellery compared to UK customer preference of 9 carat stones. These and similar other factors will have to be worked out before the website can be launched. The website will compete with existing jewellery e-commerce ventures like Juvalia & You and CaratLane.
