To reach a restaurant and to wait for over an hour for a table is a misery that we all have endured; a misery that we are willing to get past completely. Enter restaurant booking sites like Dineout (Delhi), Tablewalla (Mumbai & Delhi) and Poshvine (Bangalore, Hyderabad, Delhi/NCR, Chennai, Bangalore). These sites allow users to sign up and book tables at select restaurants thereby saving the hungry soul the agonizing wait.
From among these, Dineout, started by Ankit Mehrotra, Sahil Jain and Nikhil Bakshi in February 2012 raised Rs. 60 lakhs in angel funding in October. Along with booking tables, this site also provides restaurant listings, consumer reviews and deals + offers. Now, the site claims to have crossed 10,000 bookings per month in Delhi alone where it lists around 250 restaurants. Given the need of such a service, I am not surprised at this number.
Keeping in with the good news, the site plans to expand to Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Chandigarh and Pune in 2013. Speaking on the expansion, Sahil Jain said, “We plan to hit Bangalore mid-year alongside we will develop our new vertical site for banquets which is already live. We have about 260 odd restaurants in Delhi, which might go up to 350 plus in a few months. We want to be a destination for consumers to find premium restaurants and all information about them along with being able to book a table.”
I believe given the fact that this site which also has apps across all platforms is a complete package (Zomato is its competitor by virtue of listings and reviews) works quite in its favour. The site is also steering towards making banquet bookings possible. I believe this will really ease of a lot of pain a lot of people face when wanting to book halls/banquets for large parties. The fact that Dineout is coming to Mumbai does ease my banquets booking tensions at least.
The site does intend to raise further funding in the next couple of months which it plans to use for product development and expansion.
On a side note, I do hope that Tablewalla and Dineout list more restaurants that take bookings. The lists for now are severely limited. All else is good.
