DisneyUTV has entered into a strategic partnership with EA Mobile, wherein they shall hereon become the official distributors for all major EA games in India. The deal should see a huge surge in the quality of gaming experience in India. However, one must note the deal allows only the distribution of mobile games. DisneyUTV has now become one of the biggest game deployment firms with this move, as they now have game content from UTV Indiagames, Pixar, Marvel, and many others. Earlier in this month DisneyUTV’s Indiagames had hosted an 8 days fiesta of free iOS games to surge sales and popularity.
UTV had long back begun the strategic route to cementing a stronghold in this arena, when UTV Indiagames partnered with EA to offer full range PC game subscription via its Games On Demand service online. It has also been working intently on building India’s most popular virtual world experience for kids – Club penguin.UTV’s partnership with multiple game deployment agencies around the world may be seen an the quintessential factor that may drive more momentum to the Indian gaming scene. With the launch of DisneyUTV Digital, recently in the month of August – India is seeing resurgence in the gaming avenue. UTV has identified this opportunity in the upcoming mobile gaming segment.
As per the official statements, right at this moment, the portfolio shall include Need for Speed, FIFA ‘11, Monopoly, Bejeweled, Zuma, Tetris, EA Cricket ‘11, Bookworm and a few more. The mobile games are poised to be offered via a partnered agreement with local OEMs of mobile handsets and cellular carriers across India. The best part is that most of these games would be priced between Rs 50 and Rs 99. The idea is to penetrate into a new market segment, as cited by Vishal Gondal, MD of Digital- DisneyUTV.
There has been resplendent spike in the usage of smartphones and feature rich phones in India, and so has been the case with mobile internet usage. Would that factor as a complimentary accelerator for this new development?
