Sharing Content From PC To Mobile Now Made Simpler By TextMe, An Indian Web App

‘Sharing’ is the pillar on which many services and apps are based. Every service is being engineered to make the process of sharing content easy and smooth. There is one area where this has been a problem with no ready solution at hand – Sharing from your PC to someone’s phone via SMS! Now, with TextMe, an Indian web app, you can do just that! This simple and clean app helps you send any kind of data on the web to someone’s phone via SMS.

Check this video and see how the app does it.

TextMe has been developed by EpicWhale, a Mumbai based App development firm. Dayson Pais from EpicWhale shares with us how they came up with the idea.

“We hit off on the idea, quite accidentally. I had to go to a meeting and wanted to send the address on the website to my phone. I wondered what if there could be a way to just select it from inside my browser and send it off to my phone. That’s when we started imagineering Textme. We thought of a couple of odd solutions, and after many iterations, we came up with a button that would sit inside your browser and with a click allow you to send text, images, videos and links from whichever website you were browsing. We worked hard to make it as simple as possible.”

TextMe is available for almost every major browser from Chrome to Opera and the service is fairly painless and makes sharing content with someone, a piece of cake. We used Chrome to test the app out. The app is very light (just an extension) and makes sharing a simple 2 step process. The best part about TextMe is the fact that everything that you want to share is conveniently packaged in a short link. You can then personalize a message if you want to provide some context to the link as many people are wary of clicking on short links. TextMe is currently only available for India.

Another aspect of TextMe is the fact that they are also offer a share button for online media publishers. This is a powerful feature which may actually drive up the traffic to a website given the fact that many people these days are hooked on to their mobile. The content you want the share button to have is customizable and the app also provides publishers with data and analytics. Publishers might want to look at this feature very seriously as it has potential to spread their content very fast across the country. The idea is definitely very original and is useful to share content quickly without spam or advertising. The ease with which the app delivers is one of the biggest reasons for its success. It has amassed a quite a user base judging by their 10k+ fans on Facebook and 4.5 million plus SMS share count.

Dayson and the team at EpicWhale are overjoyed with the success that the app has tasted. He says, “Textme now has 40k registered users and over 4 million shares. Alexa currently ranks us in the top 10k sites and we’re moving up really fast.”
