Sistema Shyam TeleServices Limited (SSTL) operated MTS brand is mauling the idea of hosting its own App Store.
Despite facing renewed financil obligations, the company will not only bid in the fresh auction, but is also looking for software and application vendors to develop an Application Store for its subscribers. It has already partnered with software application provider 4Moles for a golf tournament.
Last month, Sistema had given a six month ultimatum to our Govt. to end the 2G problems. The company in which Sistema of Russia, the Russian Federation and the Shyam Group of India are partners have vested interest of over US$ 3.1 Billion.
Despite having popular App stores, service providers seem interested in opening their own versions. We tried to think why? Well, the app stores are primarily owned by the hardware manufactures. The service providers cannot monetize the same. Hence, they seem to want an app store wherein they earn too. The MTS brand operates CDMA mobile service & its app store will truly be one of its kind. Last year BSNL had opened an app store for its customers.
The company is already planning to double its Authorized Capital from Rs. 6,000 Crores to Rs. 12,000 Crore (@ US$ 2.36 billion) by issuing Non-Convertible Redeemable Preference Shares. Guess they have to raise money for the upcoming auctions. Reassuringly, despite cancellation of licenses, SSTL added 2, 32,557 customers just last month. Its total customer base now stands at a healthy figure of 15.43 million.
MTS does own some physical stores in metros too.
Should we expect them to feature virtual apps too? What do you think?
