Our sources tell that DropGifts, a social gifting start-up, is planning to launch operations in India very soon in a big way. DropGifts was launched by Rocket Internet, a $2 billion German firm.
Berlin based DropGifts is already present in Euporean markets like UK, Germany and France and is planning to enter South Africa and now India. DropGifts is planning to change the way we gift out beloved ones. Everybody knows the hassles that we have to go through in finding the perfect gift for our friends. But DropGifts plans to change this by giving users a new option, online.
DropGifts deploys the power of Facebook to make this possible. If you want to gift your friend, you can select her name, select the retailer and the offer, write personal message and chip in. The friend gets notified either via Facebook or email.
You can also give a group gift. When a friend starts a gift card at a certain amount, other friends can chip in to it to increase the amount of the voucher. The recipient can later redeem the voucher by buying the gift of her choice through DropGifts’ partner retailers. DropGifts claims that it has a wide range of brands on its rolls.
DropGifts is a social e-commerce portal with a concept which is novel to the Indian market. Indians have woken up to the idea of online shopping. They also go to lengths to maintain relationships.
Now it would be interesting to see how they respond to this venture which combines the both.
