Chennai based online portal StayZilla has secured funding from Indian Angel Network (IAN).
Stayzilla is a online hotel booking portal which allows its users to find and book hotels across Indian cities in the country. However, their focus is on tier 2 and tier 3 cities.
What is the site’s Uniqueness? Travel deals sites are aplenty. But StayZilla aims to stand apart by focusing on the lesser populated towns & Tier II & III cities. It claims to offer “Value Stay” at such locations. Must be on the lines of Ginger Hotels. StayZilla currently has tie-ups with 3,800 hotels, lodges spread across 448 cities with room pricing ranging from Rs. 250 to Rs 60,000.
Even in this niche category, StayZilla will have to face competition from the likes of MagicRooms, Travelocity & others. With such crowd, we do expect some sort of consolidation. Furthermore, with companies like TripAdvisor bringing in their expertise at location-aware services, we can even expect mergers & agreements between various such service-offering companies. However, there appears room for all.
Ravindra Krishnappa, one of the Founding Partners of VertExperts, has invested in a completely individual capacity in StayZilla. So far, the fund value is not disclosed, but it might be utilized to bolster the offerings & increase tie-ups to offer local deals. Indian Angel Network is 180 membered Venture Capital team & has over 25 investments across multiple sectors like IT, Mobile, Education, Gaming etc.
