NAVTEQ, has just launched its Navigation Assistance Traffic Service in India & will be available for drivers in Mumbai & Delhi.
Apart from MapMyIndia, NAVTEQ seems to be the only comprehensive solution for snaking through the congested roads of these Metros. The company has come to the aide of about 26 Million residents & claim to save about 3 days per drivers who remain stuck in traffic while not using Navigational assistance. The NAVTEQ Traffic Pro service will provide detailed information about traffic speeds on main-roads or highways, as well as secondary roads, to NAVTEQ clients. Apart from saving time, the service also helps in cutting down carbon emissions due to smoother & consistent driving which minimizes being stuck-up.
How does NAVTEQ work? NAVTEQ aggregates and analyses traffic data from myriad sources. It has access to some of the world’s largest compilation of both commercial and consumer probe data. It boasts of having the world’s largest fixed proprietary sensor network. NAVTEQ also collaborates with the Govt. for event-based data collected and of course vast amount of historical traffic records.
NAVTEQ also offers navigational assistance via, personal navigation devices, mobile phones, smart pads and web sites. Similar services are offered in 24 other countries, but, in India, NAVTEQ claims to have data of 6.47 million POIs (Points of Interest) across 1.19 million km of the national road network.
We ask, why only Mumbai & Delhi? Well, given the vast amount of real time traffic data flowing in, NAVTEQ can do wonders for these cities. Further, area-wise, the cities are quite small & hence installation of sensor network might be easy as compared to large cities. Whatever the reason, lets hope NAVTEQ is able to provide real-time & usable traffic information so consumers know where and when to drive to save time, fuel and frustration.
With rudimentary navigations sans assistance provided by Google Maps, will you opt for a paid service that guides?
