‘Topics That Grabbed Our Attention In 2011′ Revealed By Twitter

As customary every year, Twitter, has revealed the topics that grabbed most attention worldwide by its 100 Million (& counting) users.

Dubbed as 2011′s most-popular keywords, these topics generated enormous buzz & content on the micro-blogging website Twitter.com which seems to be rapidly overshadowing SMS. Usually the Trending topics are highlighted using the famous Hash tag ‘#’. The list of Hot Topics and Top Hashtags charts the keywords that rose the fastest in conversation over the course of this year.

This reveals what grabbed attention the most in 2011, and which events, inventions, changes and ideas made the deepest impression. These trends demonstrate how Twitter is connecting people with common interests worldwide.

Some of the most shared Hash Tags comprised of events that changed world history like Egypt (President Hosni Mubarak’s resignation), Japan (earthquake). Some hash tags were meant to tickle us #threewordstoliveby, #idontunderstandwhy. As usual, the annual #SuperBowl MMXI also made the list. Our beloved Cricket was surprisingly missing though!

The movies like: The Dark Knight Rises, X-Men: First Class, Fast Five were among the top searched. Whereas the award functions like People’s Choice & Golden Globe were featured. Actors like Elizabeth Taylor, Mila Kunis, Anne Hathaway were most searched for celebrities in the female category, while Charlie Sheen, Macaulay Culkin, Ryan Dunn topped the male category.

Some of the notable events around the world like Raid on Osama, Shooting of Gabrielle Giffords, Gaddafi’s death & the Swine Flu outbreak, which even made the 2009 list, were discussed by people.

In fact security conscious twitter recently tried to push updates of people & topics it found to be top! We are pretty certain that News now-a-days spreads faster on Twitter than by word-of-mouth.
