Gets Seed Capital From VAS Capital. Hunting For The Right College Just Got Simpler?

Brainchild of Anirudh Motwani and Parul Bansal, has managed to secure INR 58 Lakh as seed capital from VAS Capital. Nurtured by Indian Angel Network, IndiaCollegeSearch is over 2 Years old (founded in 2010).

As part of the deal, Vikram Kant Upadhyaya from the Indian Angel Network & Raveesh Malhotra from VAS Capital will join the company’s Board of Directors and the investment will be used mainly for product development & bolstering the infrastructure.

The vertical search website, helps students find a college (currently the scope is limited to engineering colleges only)  & related queries (Filters provided for colleges based on locations/courses offered/admission fee/admission criteria).

Commenting on the fund infusion, Raveesh Malhotra, Managing Director of VAS Capital said “Our investment is driven by the impressive founding team and the size of the market they are targeting. Even though is free for students and does not serve ads, they have a solid revenue model.

The idea behind IndiaCollegeSearch, has been a remarkable fact: “In India, over 1 crore students enter college every year. At present, over 97% of them do not end up at the college they had planned for – and the alternatives are chosen with advice from friends and family, rather than factual information” said Mr. Motwani. “We will use this investment to aggregate information from over 20 thousand colleges in India at one place, and we’ve developed a simple and powerful algorithm (awaiting copyright) that allows students to search through all this info and get what they want at their fingertips.” he added.

We visited the site & were pleasantly surprised. The site was clean & simple, devoid of any kind of advertisement. The interface too, was divided into Graphical & Textual to help students execute queries, the way they chose fit. The funding seems to be  to seek & prepare detailed college reviews and information about critical details such as cut-offs and placement avenues. The platform will subsequently allow students to add colleges to their shortlist or apply directly.

Though the category is presently limited to Engineering Colleges, this first round of funding. We hope many more should help the team, bolster the site & prepare a platform to enable the Students across all streams take the most important decision of their lives.

A truly interesting endeavor. We urge the students to visit the website & share your views.
