Traffic To Travel Sites In India Increases By 32 percent: ComScore

As a part of The State of the Internet India report, Comscore released stats on the online travel industry in India. The stats reveal that traffic to these travel sites has increased by 32%, from 13.9 million last year to 18.5 million visitors this year.


“The online travel category continues to show strong growth in India,” said Kedar Gavane, comScore Director for India. “The convenience of booking trips and locating travel information online continues to appeal to many users, especially among India’s young Internet population. As the online travel industry matures it will be important for brands to provide increasing functionality, ease of use and security to its users to effectively compete in this growing market.”

The top 10 travel portals in terms of unique visitors are

  1. Indian Railways
  2. MakeMyTrip
  3. Yatra
  4. ClearTrip
  5. Expedia Inc.
  6. TravelAdNetwork

The top ranking portal India Railways most likely includes as well, since IRCTC is nowhere to be found on the list. The list comprises of Online Travel Agents sites which offer internet booking as well as travel portals which help users plan holidays.

Redbus which comes in 9th witnessed a growth of close to 100% over the past year which is in sync with the recent news of the company crossing the 4 million seat mark.

The traffic on these sites indicate that there are an increasing number of Indians who would like to plan all of their travel online, and that this space will experience huge growth in the near future. The report also found that users tend to be loyal to a brand once they have booked something through them.
