Aadhaar Ensures Uniqueness Through Iris And Fingerprints


Aadhaar is on it’s way to provide it’s unique identification number to 1.2 billion citizen of India. Aadhaar number will become a unique identity for people in India to access all public and private sector. The Unique Identification of India (UIDIA)- Chairman of Nandan Nilekani, is appointed as registrars across the country to facilitate the enrollment process.

Registrars appoints the agencies to collect data as well as they are govt dept. and public organizations. Currently Wipro, Combat Technologies, Alankit, Vigro Softech and more 200 agencies are named.

One thing interesting about this identification number was its uniqueness on the bases of biometric information like iris and fingerprints.

Followed by the number being embedded as well as the authority making use of data de-duplication process, which makes the unique data stored. The verification of the data is done by a authority under a centralized system. The system also ensures the duplicate copyto be deleted, leaving only one copy to be stored.

The enrollment is carried in four stages:

  • Verification of documents including address proof
  • On-the-spot capture of photos
  • Iris and fingerprints scanning
  • Acknowledgement  slip at the time of enrollment

After the verification of biometrics and demographic data, the 12 digit Unique identification number is then delivered in 20-30 days through speed post.

In the past it was reported that the main focus of Aadhaar is to provide easy and effective identity to all the residents of the country with 2 lakh people already issued with UID numbers.
