RCom 3G Lab Starts Work – Looks To Partner With Sony, Intel, Motorola, HP

From bringing free music to subscribers, to getting them free Facebook access, RCom has always been in the news for innovative ideas and value for money. However, a drop in revenue means that Reliance will now have to take some quick steps to ensure that the revenue goes up and one way to go is with 3G. In the 3G auctions, RCom won 13 valuable circles including Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata, and now have started operations in the RCom 3G Innovation Lab.

The objective of the Innovation Lab is to facilitate the development of mobile service innovations through collaboration with 3 rd party developers. Simply put, RCOM will provide its infrastructure capabilities and the 3G Innovation Lab platform to various partners to jointly develop applications for consumers. The Lab has been set up at Dirubhai Ambani Knowledge City, Navi Mumbai.

Partners

RCom has reportedly approached Sony, Intel, Motorola, and HP, amongst others, to partner with the lab. By providing the infrastructure and services of the lab, RCom could be looking to raise some funds. The 3G auctions cost the telecommunications company about INR 8,500 crores and the company will end up spending in thousands of crores again in order to launch 3G services. Partnerships for the lab will get RCom some of their initial investment back, and also gives them funds to put towards the launch.

Subscribers’ Gain

RCom’s 3G Lab will involve a community of content developers, product innovators, technology platforms enablers, device manufactures and OEMs. In simple words, what this means, is that subscribers will get a range of new services / applications to play around with, and new and improved mobile devices to access 3G services.

3G is set to take India by storm and RCom definitely seems like it will be prepared for it. Do you agree?
