Travelers in our country are more than used to “almost” making it to their destination. After navigating through about 90% of our route, we get stuck closer to destination as most small roads in India usually do not have a name thus not only confusing us, but also the GPS system if we are using one. Such a situation almost makes it impossible to find your destination in a remote neighbourhood for example. Keeping this is mind, MapmyIndia have launched the new Map Version 5.0 which have India’s first house address maps.
With this launch, navigating through any area should be a breeze, and you land right outside your destination without wandering around in circles. In May last year, we had covered the launch of MapmyIndia Version 3.0 which included 401 cities, 411625 towns and villages and around 10-lakh points-of-interest. With the new Version 5.0, MapmyIndia covers 809 cities, 76,000 towns, over 1 million villages, and 3 million points-of-interest.
However, the unique house address maps are available only for Delhi NCR and Chandigarh. Though MapmyIndia plans to increase this to many cities, as of now only these two cities stand to benefit from Maps Version 5.0. This new version also has some added features like over 52 categories like clubs, restaurants, and apartments. You even get voice guidance in 8 regional languages apart from English.
First of its kind for door-to-door navigation?
Last Year, India’s first voice based navigation service was launched with Lost? Call Us! (LCU). With a pre-paid vouchers for Rs. 100 which accounts for 15 minutes of talk time, user can call a toll free number and the live agent will either give you directions on the phone itself, or send you an SMS with detailed instructions, including road names and distances, to get to your destination. Though a different kind of service, LCU too provides door-to-door navigation.
