BSNL recently launched 3G services in Gujarat. Taking advantage of this, One97 Communications have launched a pilot for video portal VAS in the state. Though this service is not available commercially, it will allow BSNL 3G subscribers to watch and download videos from one97′s website.
One97 is a telecom applications platform company. One97 either develops or purchases application platforms which can deliver products and services that can directly be integrated to the telecom service providers core network elements. Apart from network services, the company also has consumer and enterprise based services. One97 boasted of a turnover of INR 86 crores in Dec ’09, and the company plans to raise around INR 120 crores through an IPO which would enable them to enhance their roducts and services. One97 had recently got Vringo to India.
About the video portal
3G will abet mobiles phones in leading the digital revolution in the country. This video portal stands to be the new face to entertainment via mobile phones. This application will allow subscribers to access a lot of video content, information, and businesses. The best part of it of course being that you can access it from anywhere.
Will it ever go commercial?
Personally, I don’t see a hindrance in this video portal going commercial very soon. 3G will give customers great speeds to download videos or other content that they might be looking to access through their phones. The convenience of being able to access content from no matter where you are is something the consumer will never overlook. What do you think?
