Twitter Usage Dominated By Indonesia, Brazil and Venezuela – India Comes In At 18th

Twitter; love it or hate it, you can not deny that it is one of the most popular social networking sites in the world. I am one of those who am not particularly impressed by the micro-blogging website, however, I too was almost forced into making an account thanks to all the “interesting” people who choose to micro-blog on Twitter. And there are many like me, apart from those who love it, on this site which actually keeps increasing the number of users, and thus the usage. comScore did a study on the same subject and found out that Indonesia, Brazil, and Venezuela lead the global surge in Twitter usage.

The study reviewed the number of internet users visiting the micro-blogging site. comScore says that Indonesia reported 20.8% of the country’s internet users visited Twitter. comScore also attributed Venezuela’s increased twitter usage to President Hugo Chavez joining Twitter in April. Surprisingly, India could only manage 18th position out of 41 countries surveyed. With Bollywood stars taking on to twitter, it is surprising that all their fans could not push India into the top 5.

All this data only proves the increasing popularity of Twitter. The website has taken the world by storm and only stands to grow multiple folds. With the number of smartphones available in the market at cheaper rates all over the world, the addiction to micro-blogging will most probably pick up even more.

One thing that does pop into the mind of someone like me is how much time do people really have in the world? Apart from Twitter, Facebook too is increasing its number of users exponentially. I can only end this with a conversation I had with a colleague; Tazeen.

Tazeen: I have Twitter, Facebook, Orkut, YouTube. What do you have?
Anish: I have work.
