How Long Will India Have To Wait For the iPad?

All Apple maniacs in the country will again be suffering. After India was ignored during the worldwide launch of the Apple iPad, reports have now come out that the country’s Apple faithful will have to wait further. So why is the launch being delayed further?

LG Display are planning to cut production of its Liquid Crystal Displays (LCDs) by next month due to the poor demand from TV makers. How this affects iPad is that LG Display manufactures the 9.7 inch IPS LCD display found in the iPad. The IPS LCD screen is a relatively new technology that is pushing the limits of production capacity due to Apple’s high standards. As a result of the production cuts, combined with the increasing demand from Apple, LG find themselves in a fix and seem unlikely to be able to meet the production requirements for the Apple tablet.

Apple plans to launch the iPad in 9 new countries this Friday namely Austria, Belgium, Hong Kong, Ireland, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand and Singapore. But do we really need the iPad? Why not go with Indian manufacturers?

Olive recently launched the OlivePad which runs on Google’s Android Operating System and supports 3.5G HSUPA, Wi-fi, Bluetooth and high speed wireless broadband. Also, to be released later in the year, the Adam shows some great features and is already touted by many as the “iPad killer”.

For those who are skeptical about Indian tablets, you can always buy the iPad off the gray markets in India. However, the cost of one is as much as the that of two iPads! Now for those who don’t mind waiting for the iPad to get a reasonable price , Sony Mobile Display and Sharp look to be on route to manufacture iPad-quality displays for Apple. Certain Taiwanese display manufacturers are also upgrading their production facilities in order to start making higher quality LCD displays. However, shortages in iPad supply seem unlikely to be increased till the end of 2010. Will you wait for the iPad?
