After Mumbai Traffic Police, Their Delhi Counterparts Start SMS Service For Traffic Updates

In yet another initiative to minimize the ever increasing traffic jams on the capital’s roads, Delhi Traffic Police has dished out a new SMS service to help commuters get traffic updates on their mobiles. Recently, it has also created Facebook and Twitter profiles, which are a great success with numerous feedback and suggestions coming in from general public on improving the city’s traffic. This apparently may have inspired the officials to offer more useful and innovative services to the people.

If you are a frequent commuter and would like to avoid traffic in every possible ways, then this probably might be a boon to you. To start availing the service, you just need to subscribe for it. Once that is done, you would start getting updates at a regular interval. So the next time when you set out for your office, you just need to check your mobile inbox for an SMS update, suggesting to you a better route. Planned to be sent out on a daily basis, the updates would also highlight the points with huge congestion and their reasons thereof.

Subscription to the service is way too easy. You just have to SMS “JOIN DTP” to 09219592195. At a point of time when you think that you no longer need the service, you can just unsubscribe it by SMSing “ LEAVE DTP” to the above stated number and the service stops instantly. Considering the fact that almost everybody has a mobile today, this service is expected to be a success. And if that happens, the traffic officials will find it simpler to manage the traffic jams. With the Commonwealth Games just around the corner, Delhi Government is taking every possible step to make the city more public-friendly.

Mumbai traffic police has already introduced this service in three parts of the city viz. south city, eastern and western suburbs. One can subscribe to this service by sending an SMS to 567678 with anyone of the following JOIN TRAFFICCITY, JOIN TRAFFICEAST or JOIN TRAFFICWEST based upon their location. The service can also be unsubscribed by sending an SMS as LEAVE TRAFFICCITY, LEAVE TRAFFICEAST or LEAVE TRAFFICWEST to the same number.

Indeed, traffic officials have now realized the power of social media and mobile. If every state in the country adopts this kind of strategies, then there are ample chances of lowering the increasing traffic jams on Indian roads.
