BuddyBackup: Free Online Backup On Your Friends’ Terminals

Worried about the tedious process of backing up the huge data store your computer has ? Not any more if you have enough friends for social networking. Yes, a new software called BuddyBackup relates the two by backing up your files to your friends’ computers. You get safe and secure online and “off-site” backups of your data without having to pay a third party company.

All you have to do is download the software to your PC, add a list of your buddies(who are also using it), and choose the files to be backed up. During the initial setup., you can choose how much space you want to allocate for backup and this space is provided to your buddies to backup their files. However, there is a 5GB limit on the space you can provide for backups on your computer in the free version.

Here is how the model works:
Your files are constantly monitored for changes. When BuddyBackup sees a changed file, it takes a snapshot of it. It then encrypts your files with 128bit AES encryption. This is done before sending them on the internet which means that no else can read your files, not even your buddies! BuddyBackup sends the updated files to your buddies over the internet. If no buddy is currently online, BuddyBackup will keep track of the changes and back them up later. BuddyBackup regularly checks that your buddies still have your backups. If you lose your files due to problems with your computer , you can easily recover them by running BuddyBackup from your new computer.

Whats more, Buddy Backup also lets you store historical backups so that you can retrieve your chosen version of the file. And you do not have to worry about multitasking, as the software intelligently uses your bandwidth, only using a trickle when you are using your computer. In backing up your friends content to your computer, you can choose the maximum limit of space to be allocated for the purpose. BuddyBackup has been designed to work on Windows 7. It also works on XP, Vista, Server 2003, Server 2008.

So get started with using the feature to your maximum advantage. Check out www.buddybackup.com

    Hi there,

    Thanks for the great article.

I work for BuddyBackup and just wanted to correct a couple of things.

Firstly, BuddyBackup has no limits at all – you can backup unlimited amounts of data completely for free. This functionality will always remain free and unlimited forever.

Second, minor point – it’s 256 bit AES encryption :)

Any questions, please drop visit the site (www.buddybackup.com) or drop me an e-mail: johnw@buddybackup.com
