The much awaited Mobile Number Portability (MNP) will be delayed for what will be the 4th time in a row from June 30 to October 31.
WATBlog has in the past covered various advantages and the impact of this much needed step and also the delayed journey of its implementation.

This time the government has given the following reasons, “The Government has taken the decision after reviewing the readiness of the various access/international long distance service providers and keeping in view the complexity and enormity of the testing involved before MNP is implemented.”
Even after so many delays only 14% of the country’s mobile networks across the country are ready for MNP. Moreover 50% of the networks are yet to be tested. With so much testing and adaption yet remaining, it looks like a tough call that all the work will be completed even by the next deadline. It also seems that the state run networks BSNL and MTNL are in the worst condition as they have not set up the gateways required for MNP yet.
If you are thinking – “Ah! When will I get rid of my useless operator??” Our response would be not anytime soon!

Operators are intentionally delaying the MNP with the fear of losing the large volume customer base.I’m surprised how the government is hearing the stories of the operators, postponing the MNP.Since 2 years,i’ve been waiting for the MNP.Till now,the operators are not able update their network with MNP.But they paid millions of money to get 3G network and spent huge amounts to upgrade their network to 3g services.
It’s a shame to government. It’s a clear failure for TELECOM ministry and TRAI.I’m using a TATA INDICOM number since 5 years and waiting for MNP for the past two years(not satisfied with billing procedures and waivers of TATA INDICOM.
Hope, some hero(politician/bureaucrat) will come and make this MNP dream a reality.
