Back in March, Facebook announced that it will open up a new office in the City Of Pearls – Hyderabad, to support the ever increasing users. After receiving clearance by the Government on Saturday, Facebook said that it will start operations within two months in the biryani loving city – its first office in Asia.

The new office will be set up at the Raheja Mindspace special economic zone (SEZ) and will add to its operations in Palo Alto, California, Dublin, Ireland and Texas. The Andra Pradesh State Information Technology and Communications department said that it has allowed five companies to set up offices in a total area of 391,000 sq. ft. across different SEZs.
India is a good choice for the company for the sole reason that it can tap into the potential of the tech savvy Indian youth. Facebook has seen rapid growth in the number of Indian users and more than 8 million users are hooked on to Facebook in India. It aims to support its users, advertisers and developers in India as well as across the world. It plans to hire people to join the online sales and operations team. Around the clock, multi-lingual support is also cited as one of the reasons for opening up in India.
Facebook plans to use the nation’s talent pool and workforce to expand its business, as other companies like Google and Microsoft have already done. While this may bring many hooray’s from Indians, what needs to be found out is whether Facebook plans to run core business operations in Hyderabad or whether it will be the hub of outsourcing client servicing and operations. What seems to be the biggest highlight is to expand its online advertising. It hopes to bring in more revenue through various new advertisements in the Indian subcontinent.
Do you think this new announcement should be taken with a pinch of salt? What changes will this herald?
