You know a sector is hot when the countries largest IT company ventures into it. That is exactly what has happened in the case of social media in India. Infosys the mammoth IT services company has launched a product in the social media space. iEngage as its called is a platform which uses uses some of the currently popular social media applications and makes them available as enterprise application.
The features of the iengage platform is best summarized in the graphic below:
Currently the platform is not public and one needs to request for a demo (we have done that and will update with a review once we get to see one). Though the features include support for sales and marketing through collating online information via social media to and from customers, e-commerce for immediate purchase, customer care and employee collaboration. The platform that is launched by Infosys is built over the enterprise software platform Jive which provides an array of collaboration tools.
Our Take – Social media products is a field where India hasn’t seen growth. Yes there are a plethora of social media agencies but enterprise social media products sees a dearth in India. The reason is simple as Indian clients are not keen as yet to pour in a ton of money in becoming social. But Infosys is ofcourse looking at global clients within the top fortune 100 companies with revenues of 100 million or more.

Its highly competitive market and Its a good move for Infosys.
Need to check how different it will be compared to Radian6, Sysomos etc.,
