If you have ever been cheated online, then the chances of your grievance being addressed in Hyderabad have increased greatly now. The Hyderabad police station has recently announced its plans to launch a separate and exclusive police station to deal only with cyber crimes.
Currently cyber crimes are handled by the Detective Department’s Cyber Crime Cell under the Hyderabad Police Commissionerate. But recently this cell has been flooded with cyber crimes such as e-mail hacking, SMS and Internet chat abuse, obscene e-mails, source code theft, credit card and Nigerian frauds and other related crimes. The cell is now facing a shortage of equipment and specialized personnel to handle the wide range of crimes, leading to this new plan.
In order to increase the general awareness, the police has released a CD containing dos and don’ts of online chatting. Banks have been especially warned to increase the security of their systems and processes. This will be a follow up to the ‘DELETE’ campaign launched by Hyderabad police last year for the same purpose of creating awareness.
Cyber cells have now emerged at various police stations across the major cities in India but this will be the first police station dedicated to only cyber crime.
