Hindustan Times Mpaper Gets A Timely Upgrade

I have been using Hindustan Time mPaper for months now and it was never a  smooth experience, until last night . The UI was pathetic, fonts needed huge imporvement, eventhough the app was fast and the navigation was smooth but there were some stability issues. But now things have changed with the new update ( ver 1.25.19 ) from the guys at  Eterno Infotech.

Lets take a look at some of the changes  :

1. Better UI :  The UI has gone from pathetic to bearable, hence its an improvement. The *homepage* of the app shows four categories :

News, Entertainment, Columns and Blogs and Education

News, Entertainment, Columns and Blogs are divided into sub categories hence you have loads of options  to choose from . A special feature here is that you get to choose the columnists you want to read and hence you end up getting the best of the lot . Although some columnists ( which you see in the Non Environmental Friendly version of the newspaper ) are missing but that might be a different issue altogether.

2. Fonts : Improved Fonts, I am pretty satisfied to say the least.

3. Stability : I have been using this updated version since last night and have had no stability issues. Its furiously fast and doesn’t crash .

4. Free of Cost : Its free of cost and has no advertisements. Surprising, indeed. But hey, its great for avid newspaper readers like me. Clutter free and smooth experience . Hindustan Times does a great job of helping people like me who don’t have the overpriced unlimited 3G Plans by asking users to enable / disable photo / photo galleries and hence saving some KBs.

5. Special news columns for Mumbai and Delhi. Hopefully, more cities will be added soon. Even the Hindustan E Paper is limited to few cities !

6. Works on most of the devices : If you dive into the Eterno Infotech website, it offers NewsHunt for various Mobile OS platforms which is a good thing. Although its tried and tested only on N 73 at the moment. Try and do give us a shout.

PS -  If you are on a Nokia device -  Try pressing the menu button whilst using the mPaper and voila !  You get a Breaking news tickr on your Mobile’s Home screen which is actually a pretty nifty feature.

Hindustan Times was also earlier available on Mobile, Computers and even the Amazon Kindle. We would like to know the readers thoughts on what they think is the future of news on mobile and other devices and how important is usability for the success of the same?
