Twitter showed the way with Bollywood biggies logging on to the networking site. Now rediff which recently launched a me too of facebook fanpages with Rediff pages has apparently roped in (seems like a movie promotion gimmick) bollywood star – Hrithik Roshan. Hrithik has his own page on Rediff pages. This seems like a marketing ploy for his upcoming movie Kites and Rediff seems to be the marketing platform. The page was created on 8th April 2010 and he has around 700 fans. Compare this to his twitter following which is about 1.5 lac! As of now, all the content on the rediff page is related to his most awaited movie – Kites and he will be chatting with his fans live at 1:30 pm on Fri 7th May 2010.
Credit for setting a trend of being connected online with your fans was started by Aamir Khan with his Lagaan DVD blog which later became Aamirkhan.com and then came Big B – Amitabh Bachchan when he start blogging on Bigadda (still active on Bigadda) then many bollywood stars followed him like SRK, Priyanka Chopra who recently visited Twitter Headquarters and Now Hrithik Roshan.
All in all this does seem like a movie promotion endeavour by Hrithik for his latest movie kites. Hopefully it will also increase the adoption of rediff pages which is being peddled as a social media foray by Rediff. In my opinion it will take more than just Hrithik to get people to keep coming back to Rediff pages (a better product maybe? And not a me too of facebook?).
