Just Dial is a virtual directory service and a free local search engine for India. It won’t be wrong to say that it is a direct competitor of the Google Local search India, in a way. Just Dial has it’s presence in over 240 Indian cities and has 3000 people working with it. It also has raised funding from California based venture fund Sequoia Capital; New York based Hedge Fund Tiger Global and Hong Kong-based SAIF partners.
The company is now planning to launch it’s products in the US market. For time being the US operations are will be handled out of India but Just Dial has plans to hire up to 1,000 people in the US. Google already has a strong presence in the US in terms of all it’s search products and particularly Local Search. So Just Dial may have to face a tough time before they can actually start getting good traffic to their Local Search portals. Just Dial also has plans of entering other big countries such as Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Hong Kong as part of its expansion plans over the next two years.
