Linkedin Follows Facebook & Twitter – Launches Follow For Companies

Its seems everyone seems to be following everyone else in the social media space. So Google followed twitter by launching buzz and now its the turn of Linkedin the professional networking site to ape the other popular social networking sites like twitter and facebook.

Linkedin has launched ‘Follow” feature for Company pages. Mind you this isn’t for groups and it is for company pages which actually tracks who left and joined the company.

Check screenshot below of how the feed appears in your profile page when you follow a company:

All in all this feature is very HR and prospective employee centric as the update tells me who joined, left the company and which jobs are available with the company.

Social media has been mostly used by marketers for brands but with this linkedin feature would employer branding come to the fore in a big way? I think so what do you think?

Interesting! Yet I wonder how well this would work. For instance, though Buzz seems to be on Gmail and should be more convenient, it doesnt seem to come close to Twitter, especially if you have the Twitter Widget embedded onto your Gmail account. I guess we will have to wait and watch!

    Hi Rajiv,

This Linkedin feature will have a big impact and disrupt users habits.

Those with the willingness to stay up to date and connected to their networks will be the most reactive people.

Then, it’s surely a call to companies about employer branding challenges. Of course, a company with loads of people leaving may sound suspicious and questionable.

So, the external part is still important (good design, good content, etc…) but the employee engagement part of employer branding should be the very first and ongoing target.

LinkedIn tends to follow after features launched on either Facebook or Twitter which is what they are doing again … the “Follow Company” feature is similar to Facebook’s “Become a Fan” feature which is now simply a “Like” button and to “Twitter’s Follow”
